On Saturday morning, Summerville’s 5A high school introduced Jeff Tate as their new head coach. Tate, who formerly held the roles of athletic director and head football coach at Wren High School in Piedmont, South Carolina, led the Hurricanes to a 2019 4A state championship victory.
Jeff Tate, who retired from coaching at Wren in mid-January, has made a comeback and was appointed as Ashley Ridge’s head football coach on Saturday. During his 15-season tenure at his alma mater, Tate guided the Golden Hurricanes to their first state championship in 2019, amassing a total of 111 victories.
In January 2023, Tate retired from Wren, having achieved a 110-68 record during his 15 seasons as the Hurricanes’ head football coach. He now replaces Shane Fidler, the former Ashley Ridge head coach who recently left to become the head football coach and athletic director at Airport High School in Columbia.
