Gabriel Funk commits to Appalachian State was the significant news that swept across social media on June 18th, 2023. Funk, a noteworthy offensive lineman from Xenia, delighted his followers with this exciting announcement. Demonstrating his unbounded enthusiasm for his future alma mater, he left no room for doubt about his firm commitment.
“The culture was amazing,” Funk shared. “It felt like home. The sense of family, the coaches, the facilities, and the closely-knit campus – I loved it all.”
As a left tackle on the offensive line, Funk’s stellar performances became a pillar for the Buccaneers’ successful run during their MVL championship campaign in 2022. This was a season marked by numerous offensive records and culminated in the first recognized 10-0 regular season in school history.
247Sports places Funk near the top 100 players in Ohio’s Class of 2024. The 6-foot 6-inch, 290-pound powerhouse made his impact felt after transferring to Xenia from Harrison High School. His impressive form on the field earned him first team All-MVL and All-Southwest District, and he made it to the second team all-state last season.
Gabriel Funk commits to Appalachian State on course to be the first Xenia player to sign with an FBS school since Gavin Gerhardt’s signing with Cincinnati in the class of 2020.
In the class of 2024, Funk follows Powers to become the fourth area player to verbally commit. Preceding him, Stebbins offensive lineman Jake Wheelock pledged his commitment to Cincinnati, and Trotwood-Madison quarterback Tim Carpenter Jr. has declared his path towards Indiana.
