Northern Durham High School is on the hunt for a new head football coach for the 2024 season after parting ways with Raymond “R.J.” Wilson, who had been at the helm since 2022. Wilson, who confirmed the school’s decision to move in a different direction with hsfootballguide, had hoped to continue in his role.
When Wilson took over the program in 2022, the Knights had only managed two wins in the previous two seasons combined. Despite his efforts, the team finished with a 2-8 overall record in both of his seasons as head coach. Wilson will continue to serve as the head track coach at the school.
As of Tuesday, the head football coach position has been listed on the Durham Public Schools job board. In addition to this vacancy, Northern Durham is also seeking head coaches for both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, as well as a head cross country coach for both genders.
The Knights’ boys soccer team wrapped up the 2023 season with a 7-8-1 overall record under the guidance of former coach Villa Heron. Meanwhile, the girls soccer team, currently coached by the school’s athletic director Amy Green, holds a 1-5-1 record. Green recently joined Northern after previously working at Durham School of the Arts.
