Syracuse Football Hires Dennis Thomas, a former Rutgers offensive assistant, to their staff as the Director of High School Relations, according to his Twitter account. The SU athletic department has yet to officially announce this appointment.
In 2022, Thomas joined Rutgers following a successful seven-season stint as the head coach at Millville High School in New Jersey. During his time there, he coached current Orange running back LeQuint Allen. Under Thomas’s leadership, the Thunderbolts achieved a 52-24 record. In Allen’s senior year (2021), the team had an impressive 12-1 finish, ultimately claiming the South Jersey Group IV title.
Thomas steps in to fill the shoes of Khalil Ahmad, who has moved on to become the Recruiting Coordinator for Personnel and Recruitment at Penn State. Ahmad’s departure from Syracuse occurred in late January amidst a series of staff exits.
Syracuse Football Hires Dennis Thomas and Syracuse’s recruiting team also features Gino Gigliotti as the Director of Recruiting and McKenzie Bostic as the Director of On-Campus Recruiting.
The Orange recruited four players from New Jersey in the 2023 class, emphasizing the Garden State as a key area for sourcing talent in recent cycles. Notable players from the region include Allen and defensive back Alijah Clark.
Thomas’ strong connections to the state, along with those of SU tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile, who previously collaborated with Thomas at Rutgers, will contribute to maintaining this valuable talent pipeline.
