What Happened?

According to the Choctaw Police Department, the Oklahoma High School Football Game Shooting unfolded in the visitor’s section of the stadium right during the third quarter. Authorities say the incident began with a heated argument between at least two men, which escalated tragically into gunfire.

The Victims

The 16-year-old boy, who was shot in the groin, passed away from his injuries. He was not enrolled in either of the schools involved in the game. In addition to the fatal shooting, at least four other people were injured:

  • A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and is currently stable in the ICU.
  • A young girl was shot in the thigh; she has been treated and released from the hospital.
  • Two other girls sustained injuries while trying to escape the chaos; they suffered from broken wrists and a broken leg, respectively.

The ages of the girls and the identities of all victims have not been released.

Law Enforcement Involvement

An officer from the Del City Police Department fired his weapon during the incident. This aspect of the event is being investigated by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office as an officer-involved shooting. For the game, both the Choctaw and Del City police departments had officers present for security, as is customary.

Ongoing Investigation

Currently, no suspects are in custody, but a description of a person of interest has been provided to investigators. Two guns and eight rounds were recovered from the scene. Both Choctaw and Mid-Del school districts are cooperating with the police investigation.

School Superintendents David Reid and Rick Cobb jointly expressed their condolences, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by tonight’s incident.”

Call for Information

The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from multiple agencies. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

This tragic event has left communities shaken and many questioning the safety of public events. As authorities work to piece together what happened, the impact of this tragedy continues to reverberate through the affected families and communities.
