Get ready for a thrilling return of high school football at Boise State University! This fall, the excitement unfolds on Boise’s iconic blue turf as six homegrown teams clash in the first-ever “Battle in Boise”. Organized by the newly minted Idaho High School Football Coaches Association, the event is scheduled for September 1st 2023 at Albertsons Stadium.
Among the spectacular roster of players is Idaho’s top recruit, four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair. Playing for Burley High School, Bair will wrap up the action-packed day in a highly anticipated showdown.
The day commences with a clash of titans, as reigning 1A (D1) champion Oakley meets two-time defending 1A (D2) champion Kendrick at 3 p.m. The action continues at 5:30 p.m., with a riveting face-off between Emmett and Fruitland, leading to the final match of the day featuring Burley against Vallivue.
Burley’s coach, Cameron Anderson, also the vice president of the Idaho Football Coaches Association, expressed hopes for this event to kickstart two initiatives: a grander “Battle in Boise” showcase and the return of IHSAA championships to the grand stage of Boise State University. Anderson said, “If a state championship happens in the Treasure Valley, it should take place on Boise’s ‘Blue’ turf, not Middleton High School.”
As for the “Battle in Boise”, Anderson revealed that the aim was to create an inaugural event that’s not only memorable but also manageable. Looking ahead, we aim to grow the event into a two-day, six-game spectacle featuring teams from all divisions.
