orbin Smith, the head football coach at Crismon High School, resigns, citing personal reasons. Son of the late Larry Smith, he played a key role in founding the program two years ago.
While Smith refrained from providing specific details surrounding his departure, he expressed his appreciation for the Queen Creek community and the opportunity to start the program from scratch.
“It was a dream come true to start a program,” Smith told The Republic in March 2022 when he was hired. “The Queen Creek community is a great community. The opportunity to start a program is something that very few get, and the chance to do. I feel extremely fortunate.”
Despite the challenges, Smith acknowledged the support he received from the students, coaches, and parents during his tenure.
“I love those kids. I appreciate everything Queen Creek Unified did for me,” he said. “I have great coaches, great kids, and great parents. I appreciate all of them.”
Smith, 51, has decided to move out of state and has no plans to continue coaching high school football. He shared his intentions to explore other opportunities, stating, “It’s just time for me. The kids are out of the house. Just time for me to explore some other things. I’ve had opportunities, and I just haven’t followed through.”
While Smith’s departure marks the end of his coaching career at the high school level, he remains open to the possibility of teaching if other plans do not materialize. Crismon High School Football Coach Resigns.
Crismon High School will continue its spring football activities this week with two more practices before gearing up for summer activities, including 7-on-7 passing tournaments. The 2024 season will be the school’s first with a senior class.
Principal Elyse Torbert and Athletic Director Barry Cromer have yet to respond to inquiries regarding Smith’s resignation.
