Marcus Livingston is excitedly heading back to where it all began for him. He’s stepping up as the new head football coach at his old school, Edisto High School. EDISTO High School Hires Marcus Livingston as New Head Football Coach.
“It means everything to come back,” Livingston said. “I feel like I have the ear of the community, and the heart of the community. I know what’s going on, and want to do what’s right for the community, give them something they can be proud of on Friday night.”
Edisto High School has appointed Livingston as their new coach following Preston Deaver’s announcement that he won’t be coming back for the next season. Deaver guided the Cougars for the past four seasons, achieving a tally of 12 wins and 24 losses.
Previously, Livingston devoted five years at Estill High School. Just last year, he guided the Gators to an impressive season with an 11-2 record. The highlight of the season was a stunning 28-0 triumph over his now-current team, Edisto.
“Being at Estill was a great opportunity,” Livingston said. “Last year, we were finally able to push through and have a successful season. It took time, building a program, but once we got to that level we were able to win the school’s first region championship since 1995.”
The Gators progressed all the way to the third round of the Class A state playoffs.
Livingston confidently declared, “I want to bring that success (to Edisto). I’m ready to help them get back to that winning tradition.”
A proud Edisto High School alumnus from the Class of 2002, Livingston was found working hard at the school on a Wednesday evening alongside some fellow coaches. They were gearing up for the upcoming spring football practice.
“This spring, I want to start bringing in our culture,” Livingston said. “We’ll spend some time setting our core values and beginning to build the foundation to have success. We’re working from the bottom and building up.”
Before Livingston took the reins at Estill, the Gators had only managed to secure two victories over two seasons. His first three years were a bit rocky, but signs of progress started to appear in 2021 when they notched up four wins. These early seasons served as a foundation, ultimately leading to the Gators’ stellar performance last year.
“Talking with the other coaches, we have a feel for what we want the program to look like,” Livingston said. “Our goal is to begin implementing our system along with taking part in 7-on-7’s, workouts and two-a-days leading up to the season.”
The school also revealed that Roman Singleton, who worked closely with Livingston as the defensive coordinator at Estill, will continue in the same role at Edisto.
While Livingston hasn’t had a chance to meet the entire team yet, he has managed to have a few words with some of the players who are returning. EDISTO High School Hires Marcus Livingston.
