Big cheers for Michael Wicks, a senior at Huffman High School, who has been granted an impressive $3 million in scholarships. Quiet yet incredibly driven, Michael exhibits a remarkable work ethic, signaling a promising future.
“Somewhere between 30 and 40. I think 34,” Michael shared, referring to the number of acceptance letters that came with the whopping $3 million in scholarship funds.
Hard work both in and out of the classroom underpinned his success.
“I consistently put in the effort, aware of my value as a student. I know the worth I bring to any college or university,” Michael stated.

“The College Choice Foundation exposed me to a broader range of schools outside Alabama and those near me,” he elaborated.
Embarking on a 15-hour journey north, Michael is ready to pursue academics and play college football.
“I’ve chosen St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota,” he announced.
He’ll be trading the familiar southern heat for Minnesota’s cooler climate, a change he’s already starting to adjust to.
The choice surprised him too, but he is confident it’s for his future’s betterment.
“They offered $229,680, the highest among all my scholarships,” Michael revealed.
While he’ll be miles away, his pride in his roots and his school, which amassed $15 million in scholarships overall, remains unwavering.
“I’m truly pleased to be part of my class, the class of ’23. I thoroughly enjoyed it,” he said with excitement.
Michael intends to major in computer science. We congratulate Michael and all other bright students at Huffman High School in Birmingham!
