In a riveting showdown this past Saturday at Lockwood High School, the stage was set for the 2023 Class B all-star football game. Despite challenging conditions, the south team victory 2023 class B All-Star football, clinching a hard-fought 14-8 victory over the North team.
South’s head coach, Travis Rauh, couldn’t help but praise his team’s performance. He was especially pleased with their defensive prowess. “Our defense was exceptional,” he remarked, crediting Joe Horn, the team’s defensive coordinator, for preparing the team remarkably well.
The game opened with some flair when Eureka’s Remington Little managed to sack South’s quarterback, Ryan Racht. The loose ball from the encounter found its way out of the back of the end zone, earning the North a safety. Building on this momentum, the North scored a 1-yard touchdown run by Eureka’s Caleb Utter, taking their lead to 8-0.
However, the South wasn’t ready to concede. Just before the halftime whistle, a long pass from Racht to Whitehall’s Sage Buus lit up the scoreboard for the South, trimming the North’s lead to a mere 2 points as the teams headed for the locker rooms.
The second half started off favorably for the South, with an interception from Jefferson’s Zach Zody. This led to a decisive 1-yard touchdown run by Racht, swinging the lead to the South at 14-8.
“They could have complained, because we’re a spread team and all of the sudden we’re playing left-handed,” Rauh said of the weather. “They kept fighting and showed a lot of mental toughness. Ultimately, they made enough plays to win the game.”
In terms of individual honors, the South’s Racht walked away as the offensive MVP, while Lesh bagged the defensive MVP award. For the North, Utter and Bigfork’s Manny Baldi were the offensive and defensive MVPs, respectively.
